YouTube Monetization Requirements in India (2026) — and How to Get There Faster
By the LikeAdda team · 10 September 2026 · 2 min read
Every week someone asks us the same thing: "How do I get monetised?" Here's the full picture for Indian channels.
The thresholds
To earn ad revenue through the YouTube Partner Programme you need:
- 1,000 subscribers, and
- 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months, or 10 million public Shorts views in the last 90 days.
There's also a lower tier (500 subscribers plus some upload and view activity) that unlocks fan-funding features like memberships and Super Thanks, but not ad revenue.
On top of the numbers, YouTube reviews your channel. Reused content, compilations without commentary and copied clips are common reasons Indian channels get rejected even after crossing the thresholds.
Why watch hours are the hard part
Subscribers come with time. Watch hours are brutal for new channels: 4,000 hours means 240,000 minutes. If your average view lasts 3 minutes, that's 80,000 views.
That's why most channels that reach monetisation have at least one longer video — 20, 40, 60 minutes — that accumulates hours steadily.
A realistic plan
- Make one long "anchor" video. A full tutorial, a podcast episode, a long vlog, a study session. Long videos earn watch hours far faster than ten-minute ones.
- Upload consistently. YouTube needs signals that you're an active, original creator.
- Give your best videos a push. Early views and likes help a video get tested in Suggested. Our YouTube views include high-retention options.
- Use guaranteed subscribers, not cheap ones. If you use subscriber services, choose a lifetime-guaranteed listing. A sudden drop below 1,000 right before review is the worst-case scenario.
- Watch-time packages for the last stretch. Watch-time services deliver hours to a long public video. Keep that video public until delivery finishes.
We've grouped the relevant services on our YouTube monetisation package page.
Common mistakes
- Deleting or making private the video that's collecting watch hours.
- Running several view services on one video at once.
- Applying with a channel full of reused content.
How long does it take?
Organically, many channels take 6–18 months. With a long anchor video and some promotion, plenty of creators get there in two to three months. Use our watch-time calculator to see where you stand.
