What's a Good Instagram Engagement Rate in India?
By the LikeAdda team · 5 October 2026 · 2 min read
Brands in India increasingly look at engagement rate before follower count. Here's what the number means and what's considered good.
How it's calculated
The most common formula:
Engagement rate = (average likes + average comments per post) ÷ followers × 100
Some agencies use reach instead of followers, or include saves and shares. Ask a brand which version they use.

Rough benchmarks
Engagement rates fall as accounts grow — that's normal.
| Account size | What's usually considered healthy |
|---|---|
| Under 10K | 4–8% |
| 10K–100K | 2–4% |
| 100K+ | 1–2% |
These are rules of thumb, not laws. Niches like memes and regional entertainment often run higher; corporate accounts lower.
Why ratios matter more than totals
An account with 50,000 followers and 150 likes per post (0.3%) raises eyebrows. One with 8,000 followers and 600 likes (7.5%) looks like a real community. If you've grown followers quickly, bring likes and views up with them — likes on recent posts and reel views help keep the ratio believable.
How to improve it organically
- Ask questions in captions and reply to every comment in the first hour.
- Post carousels — they get more saves and time spent.
- Use stories daily with polls and question stickers.
- Post fewer, better posts rather than more average ones.
